NetGadgets™ provides three different classes of tools:

  • Net Testing Tools
  • Net Query Tools
  • Local Network Tools

Net Testing Tools
Ping - Use the Ping tool to check the connection between you and any available device on your network, or server on the Internet.
Trace Route - Use the Trace Route tool to obtain the list of gateways between your computer and a particular device or server.
Name Scan - Name scan attempts to obtain the Internet names for a range of IP addresses.
Ping Scan - The Ping Scan tool will ping a range of Internet Addresses and display the results. See Ping for more information.
Port Scan - The Port Scan tool will scan a range of ports for a range of Internet Addresses. Each TCP/IP port will be tested to see if there is a server active on that location.
Service Scan - The Service Scan Tool scans a range of Internet Addresses in its attempt to locate a particular type of server.
Echo Plus - The Echo Plus tool allows you to send data to an Echo Server. The Echo Server will then reflect this data back to the echo tool. The Echo Plus tool can also be used to send data to test other service ports.
Email Verify - The Email Verify tool can be used to test the validity of an email address. This test is done by contacting the email server which handles email for the domain name and testing to see if it will accept the email address. The test requires access to a DNS Server which can return MX type records.
Character Generator - The Character Generator Tool shows the results of a connection to a Character Generator service.
HTML Test - The HTML Test Tool will connect to a HTML server and test the speed of transfer of the target Web page.

Net Query Tools
NS Lookup - The NS Lookup tool can be used to determine the Internet Protocol address or Internet name of a device.
Domain Search - The Domain Search Tool can be used to obtain registration information for a domain.
IP Search - The IP Search Tool can be used to obtain registration information for an IP Address.
Whois - Use the Whois tool to obtain information on names from the Network Information Center.
Time - Use the Time tool to obtain precise time value from a remote Time server and to synchronize your local system clock.
Daytime - The Daytime tool queries a Daytime Server to obtain the current time.
Finger - Use the Finger tool to obtain information about all users on a network host.
Quote of the Day - Use the Quote of the Day tool to view quotations from a remote Quote server.

Local Network Tools
Active Connections - Use Active Connection tool to view network information regarding the local computer. Information listed includes currently active TCP/UDP connections, report on network statistics of different protocols (including TCP, IP, UDP, and ICMP), list of network interfaces, current IP routing table, and ARP table.
Network Statistics - The Network Statistics tool displays TCP/IP per protocol network statistics for the local computer.
Route Table - The Route Table Tool displays the contents of the routing table for the local computer.
ARP Scan - The ARP Scan tool will perform Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) operations for the local computer. It will return the ARP address for a target IP and can also obtain the Best Interface and Best Route information.
